California Grand Prix

noun - The California Grand Prix is a series of solo swims that are held in the state of California and are defined as ultra marathon swims.
Origin[edit]
California channel swimmer Patti Bauernfeind developed the concept in 2015 in collaboration with Scott Zornig, Evan Morrison, Vito Bialla, Kim Rutherford, Scott Tapley, and Joel Wilson.

- Farallon Islands: 29.68 statute miles (47.76 km), level of difficulty (3) due to distance, water temperatures, marine life, wind, waves, currents and tides. Point total: 89.04
- Lake Tahoe: 21.24 statute miles (34.18 km), level of difficulty (2) due to altitude, waves, water temperature, fresh water. Point total: 42.48
- Monterey Bay: 24 statute miles (38.62 km), level of difficulty (2) due to distance, water temperature, jellyfish, marine life, wind. Point total: 51
- Santa Cruz Channel (to Oxnard): 23.5 statute miles (37.81 km), level of difficulty (1) due to water temperature. Point total: 23.5
- Catalina Channel: 20.2 statute miles (32.5 km), level of difficulty (1) due to night swim, water temperature. Point total: 20.2
