Butterflyer

noun - A butterflyer is a swimmer who swims the butterfly stroke in either open bodies of water or the swimming pool.
Very few open water swimmers in history have completed over a mile in unbroken butterfly stroke without a wetsuit using only dolphin style kicking in any open water swimming event. The butterfly stroke is used by only a handful of marathon swimmers including individuals who have crossed the English Channel, Catalina Channel, and Strait of Gibraltar swimming butterfly. The rules of swimming butterfly in the open body of water were first proposed by Steven Munatones of the World Open Water Swimming Association.
There is a list on Openwaterpedia of Open Water Butterfly Swims with dates, distances, and comparisons of speed.
