- She completed a crossing of the English Channel in 10 hours 46 minutes in 1989 .
- She completed a crossing of the English Channel in 14 hours 15 minutes in 1999.
- She completed a crossing of the Catalina Channel on 28 August 2002 in 10 hours 24 minutes at the age of 42.
- On 25 March 2004, she completed a crossing of the Cook Strait in 9 hours 4 minutes at the age of 44. .
- On 19 August 2000, she completed a crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar in 4 hours 45 minutes at the age of 40.
- On 29 July 2001, she completed the Lake Zurich Marathon Swim in Switzerland in 6 hours 48 minutes 40 seconds at the age of 41.
- She has completed 4 of the 7 Oceans Seven channel crossings.
- She swam 29 km across the Palk Strait from Talaimannar, Sri Lanka to Dhanushkodi, Tamil Nadu, India in 14 hours 52 minutes on 20 August 2004 as an unprecedented swim.
- She swam 26 km across the Toroneos Gulf from Cassandra to Nikiti in Greece in 8 hours 11 minutes.
- She swam in the Tyrrhenian Sea (water surrounded by Italy, Sicily, Corsica and Sardinia) in 2001.
- She swam from Three Anchor Bay, Cape Town to Robben Island in South Africa on 29 April 2005 in 4 hours 26 minutes.
- She was awarded the Arjuna Award in 1990.
- She was awarded the Padma Shri in 2009.
