Bugio Crossing

The Bugio Crossing is a 2-person relay swim of the Santa Cruz – Desertas Natural Swim, a 13.5 nm (25 km) marathon swim in the Madeira Islands between Madeira and the Desert Islands in Portugal. The 25 km race is in two modalities: Ilhéu Chão Crossing (Individual competition) and the Bugio Crossing.

Start and Finish

Start: town of Santa Cruz on Madeira Island (coordinates: 32o41’06,76’’N / 18o47’34,39’’W)
Finish: Ilhéu Chão on the Desert Islands (32o33’14.77’’N / 16o32’14.91’’W)

Organisation

Late Clube de Santa Cruz, Clube de Natação da Madeira, Municipality of Santa Cruz and the Associação de Natação da Madeira will be responsible for the organisation of this event under the leadership of race director Pedro Vasconcelos from Iate Clube de Santa Cruz.

The security of the event will be assured by the Capitania do Porto do Funchal, Serviço de Proteção Civil and SANAS Madeira, and supported by Secretaria Regional de Educação e Recursos Humanos, Direção Regional da Juventude e Desporto, Capitania do Porto do Funchal, Serviço do Parque Natural da Madeira and Associação Regional de Canoagem da Madeira.
