Budleigh Salterton
Created for Outdoor Swimming Society Festive Swim - Christmas Day
10.00 start, from the bottom of Steamer Steps. A sloping set of steps down the cliff at the seaward end of Rolle Road, which leads up from the lower end of the High Street.
A barefoot run down the shelving beach of big oval shifting pebbles is a challenge in itself so footwear is advised! From study of photos from previous years, fancy dress is worn by some and the Exmouth lifeboat stands offshore for the duration before speeding back the 4 miles to Exmouth for the 11.00 swim there. On a sunny morning with silvery calm sea, Budleigh is hard to beat but should conditions be really rough, an option would be to swim from the sand and shingle beach at Exmouth; the tide will be low and the swim area will be sheltered by the sand bar.
