Brooke Marie Bennett (born 6 May 1980), whose nickname is Waterbabi, is a 43-year-old American pool and open water swimmer from Clearwater, Florida.
Swimming Highlights
- She won the 2023 8-mile Swim for Alligator Lighthouse in the Florida Keys in 3 hours 9 minutes 6 seconds at the age of 43.
- She won 3 Olympic gold medals in the 800m freestyle in the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games, and the 400m freestyle in the 2000 Sydney Olympics
- She won the RCP Tiburon Mile in San Francisco Bay, California four times.
- She is inducted as an Honor Swimmer in the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
- In 1996, she was named the Sportswoman of the Year by the United States Olympic Committee.
- Over the course of her swimming career, she won 14 USA Swimming national titles and graced the cover of Wheaties “Breakfast of Champions” cereal box.
- Disney also praised Bennett’s success by having her handprints in cement at the Disney/ MGM Studios.
- She won the 8-mile Swim for Alligator Lighthouse on 11 September 2021 in 3 hours 19 minutes 20 seconds at the age of 41.
- She works as a sports broadcaster for Bright House Sports Network in Florida and has announced at the RCP Tiburon Mile a number of times.
- She has competed in the Flowers Sea Swim, Flowers International 5k and 10k, the 24-mile Tampa Bay Marathon Swim, Trans Tahoe Relay, and the Boston Harbor Swim, a Swim Across America charity event.
- She won the 2020 5 km Tampa Bay Frogman Swim.
- Her attempt for a third straight Olympic appearance fell short in 2004, following operations on both of her shoulders in 2001. She finished third in the 800m freestyle at the USA Olympic Trials.
