Brian Goodell

Brian Stuart Goodell (born 2 April 1959) is an American swimmer, a two-time Olympic champion, and former world record-holder. He has worked as a motivational speaker.

International Career

At the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, he won gold medals in the 400m and 1500m freestyle events. He also won gold medals in both events at the 1979 Pan American Games in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He received a silver medal in 1500m freestyle at the 1975 World Swimming Championships in Cali, Colombia.

Goodell held the 400m freestyle world record from 18 June 1976 to 6 April 1979, and the 1500m freestyle world record from 1976 to 1980. He was recognized as the Male World Swimmer of the Year by Swimming World Magazine in 1977. He was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame as an Honor Swimmer in 1986.

Domestic Career

Goodell attended college at the University of California Los Angeles, where he swam for the UCLA Bruins. During his collegiate career, he won nine NCAA individual championships.
