adjective - Boxed in is to be caught between open water swimmers or triathletes in the front and back and/or on the left and right sides so as to not be able to swim in the desired direction or at the desired pace, sometimes resulting in additional physical contact. Boxed in is to be closely surrounded by other swimmers and unable to make a move within a pack in an open water swimming or triathlon competition.

Usage

The swimmer was boxed in between three other swimmers after coming out of the turn. Synonym: sandwiched and squeezed.
