Sean Ryan
Sean Ryan (born August 13, 1992) is a 24-year-old world-class pool and open water swimmer from the United States who competed for the reigning NCAA Division I champion University of Michigan. He participated in the 2011 FINA World Championships in the 10K Olympic qualifier Shanghai, China and participated in the 2013 FINA World Championships in the 5 km solo race, 5 km team pursuit relay, and 10 km marathon swim. He qualified for the 10 km race at the 2015 FINA World Swimming Championships in Kazan, Russia by finishing second at the 2015 USA Swimming Open Water National Championships in Fort Myers, Florida. He qualified for the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim final at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games by finishing fourth at the 2015 FINA World Championships 10 km marathon swim.

Personal
Ryan is a 2010 graduate of The McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee and was the fastest American high school swimmer at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials as a fifteen year old. He swam with the Scenic City Aquatic Club, a USA Swimming program, and The McCallie School under coach Stan Corcoran. He was a member of the National Junior Team and qualified for the National Open Water Team in 2008 and is now a member of the US National Team for his success in the 1500 m freestyle in 2010. Ryan currently is swimming for coach Mike Bottom at The University of Michigan and is majoring in engineering.
His nicknames include Bones, Skeletor, and PDK.
Swimming Career
At the 2009 Open Water Nationals, Ryan placed 4th overall and qualified for the 2009 FINA World Swimming Championships in Rome, Italy. At the 2009 FINA World Swimming Championships, Ryan swam the 25 kilometer marathon swim race and placed 11th with a time of 5:36:22.2.
In 2010, Ryan barely missed a spot on the USA Swimming Open Water National Team placing 7th in the USA Swimming Open Water Nationals in May 2010. After a somewhat disappointing swim in the open water, Ryan decided to focus on pool swimming for the summer. After a month of training with Jon Urbanchek out in Fullerton, California and a few weeks taper with coach Stan Corcoran, Ryan's work paid off with a third place finish at US Nationals right behind Peter Vanderkaay. Ryan finished with a time of 15:04.84 which placed him at 7th in the world at the time. This time qualified him to represent the United States at the Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, California. At the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships Ryan placed 4th in the 1500 m. His time of 15:04.84 was 11th in the world for the 2009-2010 season.
He competed in the 2016 US Olympic Swimming Trials.
