Bohol Sea

The Bohol Sea, also called the Mindanao Sea, is located between Visayas and Mindanao in the Philippines. It lies south of Bohol and Leyte and north of Mindanao. Siquijor and Camiguin are its two major islands. The sea connects to the Philippine Sea through the Surigao Strait, to the Camotes Sea through the Canigao Channel and Cebu Strait, and to the Sulu Sea through the strait between Negros Island and Zamboanga Peninsula.
Marine Life
Sea life is abundant and includes such attractions as clownfish, lionfish, barracuda, dolphins, huge coral formations, and other common tropical sea life.
Surigao Strait Adventures
- In March 1521 during the first circumnavigation of the Earth, Ferdinand Magellan and his crew were the first Europeans to sail through the Surigao Strait.
- On 16 January 2015, Ingemar Macarine was the first solo swimmer to swim 11 km across the Surigao Strait between Sumilon Island in Barangay Lipata to Barangay Punta Bilar in Surigao City.
- On 31 January 2016, Ingemar Macarine attempted a 14 km crossing from Pamilacan Island to Baclayon in the Bohol Sea.
- On 10 November 2017, Ingemar Macarine completed an unprecedented 17.8 km crossing from Pamilacan Island in the Municipality of Baclayon to Barangay Bolod in the Municipality of Panglao, Boho in 6 hours 43 minutes.
