2014 World Open Water Swimming Performance of the Year Nomination
"When a community and culture has entwined itself with the ocean environment for over 3,000 years, there is much for outsiders and the younger generations to learn and appreciate. Bruckner Chase, working with a U.S. government grant along with local authorities and community leaders in Amerika Samoa, captured the essence of how the locals in the South Pacific island nation interact with their surrounding ocean with a fascinating documentary film. Motivational and educational, humbling and introspective, BlueJourney-Amerika Samoa-Stronger Together: The Waterman’s Way is a film that re-energizes the next generation to learn and carry on the great oceanic traditions of the Samoan people. For highlighting the ways of local watermen, for establishing a curriculum infused with the Samoan DNA with contemporary thought, for documenting a lifestyle and mindset oriented at oneness with the marine environment, Bruckner Chase’s BlueJourney-Amerika Samoa - Stronger Together: The Waterman's Way is a worthy nominee for the 2014 World Open Water Swimming Offering of the Year."
