Birkirkara St Joseph's Sports Club
The Birkirkara St Joseph's Sports Club in Malta organizes the Malta–Gozo–Malta Open Water Swimming Competition, one of the world's top 100 open water swims. The 18 August 2012 event is part of the six-part open water swimming series hosted by the Club.
Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club is Malta's leading multi-sports Club, was founded in 1975. Club teams participate in amateur football, darts, table-tennis, athletics, cycling, swimming and triathlon. Football has been around for the Club’s whole life span, but it was triathlon that really put the Club on the local and international sporting scene.
The Club also organizes the Red Bull Triathlon Series of Races and a 5K Road Running Series in addition to the open sea swim series (PowerBar Open Water Swimming Championships. The Club organizes also sporting events in conjunction with Local Councils and charitable institutions. Its long distance swimming team swam around the whole Maltese archipelago.
Open Water Swimming Series
On June 7th and June 20th, there are 2 km coastal sea races. On July 4th and July 18th, there is a 2 km coastal sea race. On August 1st, there is a 4 km coastal sea race. On August 18th, there is the Malta–Gozo–Malta Open Water Swimming Competition and on August 29th, there is a 2 km coastal sea race.
