Baharampur is a city in the state of West Bengal, India, situated in the central part of the state. As of the 2011 census, it had a population of 305,609 and was the seventh largest city in West Bengal.
Open Water Swimming
The Murshidabad Swimming Association organizes the annual India National Open Water Swimming Competition since 1943. The race starts in Jangipur and ends in Berhampore and is one of the world's longest open water swimming competition and among the Top 50 Open Water Swims In Asia and the World's Top 100 Open Water Swims. The race features two distances: 81 km (50.3 miles) and 19 km and is held in the River Bhagirathi.
