noun - A safety belt is a nylon strap or safety strap that is affixed around the waist of a cold water swimmer or ice swimmer so they can be more easily grabbed from above or in the water by safety divers, lifeguards, their second or other safety personnel at a cold water swimming competition or ice swimming event.

Usage[edit]

Every swimmer must wear a safety strap around their waist during the 1000m event.
