Ballycastle (from Irish: Baile an Chaistil, meaning "town of the castle") is a small town in County Antrim in Northern Ireland. The town is located on the northernmost coastal tip of Northern Ireland Rathlin Island and the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland can be viewed from the coastline. The town is at the northern mainland limit of the Antrim Coast and Glens Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Open Water Swimming

Rathlin Island and the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland can be viewed from the coastline where an open water swimming competition is held, the 11.3 km (7-mile) Rathlin Swim Challenge, one of the World's Top 100 Island Swims.

The Dál Riata Channel Swim, previously known as the Mull of Kintyre Swim, is a 17 km (10.5-mile) channel swim was pioneered by Wayne Soutter from Mull of Kintyre in Scotland to Ballycastle in Northern Ireland. It is part of the Irish Triple Crown.
