Bea Hartigan

Bea Hartigan is a race director and volunteer in the open water swimming world. She has organized the Fran Schnarr Memorial 5K Open Water Championships, the Fran Schnarr Memorial Metropolitan Open Water Age Group Championships, and the Huntington Bay Ocean Water Swim. She was chosen as the Times of Huntington Volunteer of the Year of 2011 and continues to serve as the Open Water Swimming Zone Representative for the Eastern Zone of USA Swimming.

Hartigan teaches first aid courses, including CPR, and has instructed beginner to lifeguard-level swim classes at the YMCA in Huntington Bay, New York, USA. As a swim coach for the YMCA, she was inducted into the Metropolitan Swimming Hall of Fame in 2008.

Hartigan been on the board of directors of The Townwide Fund of Huntington since 1970. The Fund raises money through local events and annual campaigns. She chairs the annual four-mile runs, Thanksgiving Day Run and St. Patrick's Run.

Hartigan and her husband created the Hartigan Challenge that awards the high school team with the lowest qualifying time.
