Bay to Breakers
Bay to Breakers (B2B or the SERC Bay to Breakers) is a 10-mile open water swimming competition organized by the South End Rowing Club and founded by Bob Roper in 1987. It is held in May on Memorial Day in San Francisco Bay, California.
Course
The 10-miles course goes from the base of the Bay Bridge, around the Embarcadero, through the shipping channel between Alcatraz Island and Aquatic Park, past Crissy Field, under the Golden Gate Bridge, and finishes around Seal Rocks and to the sand of Ocean Beach.
South End Rowing Club
The South End Rowing Club (SERC) was founded in 1873 and is one of the oldest athletics clubs in the western United States. The boathouse, with a fleet of 30 boats, is located in San Francisco, California, at 500 Jefferson Street near Fisherman's Wharf, adjacent to the San Francisco Aquatic Park. The club supports participation in rowing, swimming, handball, and running. It is open to the public from 10 am to 6 pm (for a US$6.50 fee) on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Boats may be used by members only.
