Bay of Marathon

The Bay of Marathon (Demotic Greek: Μαραθώνας, Marathónas; Attic/ Katharevousa: Μαραθών, Marathṓn) is a bay near the small town of Marathon in Greece, the site of the battle of Marathon in 490 BC, in which the heavily outnumbered Athenian army defeated the Persians.
It was site of the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games open water swimming competition.
