Barrie Devenport (1935 - 2010) was an open water swimmer and lifesaver from New Zealand.

Honours

  • He was inducted in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame in 1968 as an Honor Swimmer.
  • He received the Lifetime Award from the New Zealand Ultra Marathon Swim Awards in 2021.
  • On 20 November 1962, Devenport made history as the first person in modern times to swim the 25.7 km (16 nautical miles) across the Cook Strait, starting from Cape Terawhiti on the North Island and finishing on Wellington Rock on the South Island in 11 hours 20 minutes at the age of 27.
  • He was a member of the Worser Bay Surf Lifesaving Club and succeeded on his second attempt.
