Balatonfured
Balatonfüred is a small town with 13,500 inhabitants, on the north shore of Lake Balaton, surrounded by gently sloping hillocks. Balatonfüred and its surrounding settlements lie in the so-called Balaton Riviera. This expression refers to the special micro-climate.

Open Water Swimming
Balatonfüred is site of the 2014 FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships when FINA cancelled the original site location of Eilat, Israel. It is also site of a 10 km professional marathon swimming event on the FINA/HOSA Marathon Swim World Series circuit, and the 3 km open water swimming races at the 2017 FINA World Masters Swimming Championships.
