Chaleur Bay

Chaleur Bay (in French, Baie des Chaleurs) also known informally in English as Bay of Chaleur due to the influence of its French translation - is an arm of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence located between Quebec and New Brunswick in Canada. The name of the bay is attributed to explorer Jacques Cartier (Baie des Chaleurs). It translates into English as "bay of warmth" or "bay of torrid weather".
Open Water Swimming
- International Swimming Hall of Fame and International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame inductee Jon Erikson was the first person to cross Chaleur Bay.
- It was site of the now-defunct Les Quatorze Milles de Paspébiac, a 14-mile professional marathon swim held in the Ville de Paspébiac, Québec, Canada that started in 1976. In 1976, Jon Erikson made the inaugural crossing Grand Anse to Paspébiac in Chaleur Bay, 14 miles of 53°F water in 8 hours 46 minutes. The following year, he did a 30-mile double crossing of Chaleur Bay on 13 August 1977 in 16 hours 4 minutes.
