Torbay

Torbay is a borough in Devon, England, spanning the towns of Torquay, Paignton, and Brixham, located around an east-facing natural harbour (Tor Bay) on the English Channel. Torbay is roughly equidistant from the cities of Exeter and Plymouth. A popular tourist destination with a tight conurbation of resort towns, Torbay's sandy beaches, mild climate and recreational and leisure attractions have given rise to the nickname of the English Riviera.

The BLDSA Torbay Swim is a 4-mile (6.4 km) and 8-mile (12.8 km) open water swim in Torbay.

British Long Distance Swimming Association Swim Series

Torbay is site of one of the 2016 British Long Distance Swimming Association Swim Series events. The events include the following races:

  • Torbay 2-way crossing from Meadfoot to Brixham and Return, female: Karen Toole in 2 hours 42 minutes 48 seconds in 1983.
  • Torbay Veterans from Meadfoot to Brixham, male: Dave Reason in 1 hour 30 minutes 21 seconds in 1998.
  • Torbay Veterans from Meadfoot to Brixham, female: Dilys Beynon in 1 hour 52 minutes 11 seconds in 1986.
