The Magnificent Nine
The Magnificent Nine is a group of nine men from the Faroe Islands who swam 4.5 km in wetsuits from the island of Streymoy to the island of Eysturoy in the Faroe Islands in July 2016 in 90 minutes in 13°C (55°F) water. They stopped on the skerry Flesjarnar en route in the 13°C (55°F) water. The members of the tandem swim included Erlendur Simonsen, Eyðun Húsgarð, Sámal Olsen, Leivur Michelsen, Jon Hestoy, Eyðun Bærentsen, Jákup Enni, Erling Eidesgaard and Remi Lamhauge, and included escort pilots Jóannes Eidesgaard and Anna Eidesgaard.
