Aleko Gitolendia is a disabled pool and open water swimmer from Georgia. He worked in the Georgian Army where he injured both legs that were later amputated above the knee. He studied at Tbilisi State University and lives in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Open Water Swimming[edit]

Gitolendia will attempt to set an ocean swimming world record for amputees swimming 3 km non-stop in the ocean in Ala Moana Beach Park on Oahu in Hawaii on 3 December 2015.


Aleko Gitolendia was inspired by fellow double amputee Corporal Temur Dadiani who set a world record for push-ups in Georgia.
