Absence of Perception

Noun – Absence of Perception is the inability to fully utilize the five physiological senses traditionally used on land (i.e., sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste) that open water swimmers and triathletes face (endure) when swimming either solo or in a competitive environment in an open body of water. It is one of the five core obstacles that open water swimmers and triathletes experience along with Physical Exposure, Solitary Adversity, Survival Dependence, and Intensity of Experience.
