8 Bridges Hudson River Swim course

The 8 Bridges Hudson River Swim is an 8-day, 7-stage marathon swimming stage swim down the Hudson River in the State of New York in the United States. The 8 Bridges Hudson River Swim course covers 120 miles (193 km) in 7 stages over 8 days with a rest day or rain day if necessary. The swim, co-founded by David Barra and Rondi Davies, begins at the Rip Van Winkle Bridge near Catskill, New York and ends at the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in New York City, U.S.A. Its stage swims are among the longest marathon swims and the longest stage swim in the world, and is part of the Triple Crown of Stage Swims.

Mission

The swim aims to raise awareness for the work of New York Open Water, Riverkeeper, and Launch 5, all organizations concerned with making the entire length of the Hudson a clean, sustainable and safe environment for all. Public viewing will be possible along many places on the River.

Stage 5 (The Beast): Day 5 from Bear Mountain Bridge to Tappan Zee Bridge (19.8 miles or 31.8 km)

Costs

US$700 per stage for stages 1-6 and US$1,300 for stage 7. For all 7 stages, US$5,000 (a US$500 discount).

Honors

New York Open Water won the 2016 Streeter Award for Service to Marathon Swimming from the Marathon Swimmers Federation for organizing the 20 Bridges, Spuyten Duyvil 10K, 8 Bridges Hudson River Swim, and 2 Bridges Swim Under The Walkway.
