Three Lakes Challenge
The 40-mile Three Lakes Challenge (or Loch, Lake, Llyn) is a challenge first completed by a 5-person relay with Sam Plum, Jason Betley, Helen Gibbs, Helen Liddle, and Debbie Taylor on 3-4 July 2015. This challenge is the equivalent to the Three Peaks Challenge which involves climbing the three highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon).
History
The swimming equivalent was first laid down as a challenge by Jason Betley in 2013.
Course
On 3 July, the team started a 41 km course along the length of Loch Awe in Scotland. They then drove to Windermere and swam the length of 16.9 km, and finally drove to Bala to swim 6.4 km across Llyn Tegid (or Bala) in Wales.
Logistics and Times
Their total swim time was 19 hours 24 minutes including an 11 hour 48 minute crossing of Loch Awe, a 5 hour 53 minute crossing of Windermere, and a 1 hour 43 minute crossing of Llyn Tegid (Bala) with a total time including travel of 36 hours 23 minutes.
