noun - The Women's Swimming Association (WSA) was founded in 1917 by Charlotte Epstein with the help of friends. The WSA became famous for promoting the health benefits of swimming as exercise for women who at a time were not viewed as athletic, and exercise was not considered beneficial to female health.
