Stella Taylor is an American pool and open water swimmer who was inducted in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame as an Honour Swimmer in 1982.
Marathon Swimming Career
- On 7 August 1970, she competed in the America's Marathon Swim in Newport, Rhode Island, a 42.9 km professional marathon swim, at the age of 32.
- In 1971, Taylor swam a 14-mile closed course at the Aswan Dam in Egypt.
- In 1973 and 1975, Taylor successfully crossed the English Channel.
- In 1975, Taylor became the oldest woman to have swum the English Channel at 45 years and 349 days of age.
- In 1977, Taylor at the age 45 crossed Lake George (32 miles / 51.5 km) in 26 hours 51 minutes to join the 24-hour Club
- On 4 October 1978, she attempted a solo Bimini Swim from North Bimini Island to Florida that took 51 hours 0 minutes. Taylor ultimately did 4 attempts, none that succeeded.
- On 2 September 1981, Taylor swam the 24 miles of Loch Ness in Scotland in 18 hours 58 minutes when the water temperature was 45-48°F (7.2-8.8°C)
- In 1981, Taylor swam 40 miles across Lake Okeechobee from Moore Haven to Belle Glade.
- She swam around Everglades City in Florida.
- She spent 65 hours swimming in a swimming pool in Fort Lauderdale.
- She won the 1969 Greta Anderson Trophy from the World Professional Marathon Swimming Federation, given to the outstanding first-year woman swimmer on the World Professional Marathon Swimming Federation circuit.
