Because Girls Can relay team of Colleen Shields, Nicole Mallette, Samantha Whiteside, Rebekah Boscariol, and Mona Al Sharari

Rebekah Boscariol is an 18-year-old Canadian pool and open water swimmer who swam across Lake Ontario in Canada in near-record time, a feat she undertook as a way of giving back after her sister had heart surgery at Sick Kids Hospital. Her unselfish effort was nominated for the 2011 World Open Water Swimming Performance of the Year.

Because Girls Can[edit]

Boscariol is a member of the Because Girls Can relay that will attempt to swim the length of Lake Ontario in a 305 km relay together with 61-year-old Colleen Shields, 48-year-old Nicole Mallette, 23-year-old Samantha Whiteside, and 18-year-old Mona Sharari starting on 23 July 2013. They will swim in 2-hour legs throughout the expected 5-day non-stop unprecedented relay.

Because Girls Can's effort is a charity event for Because I am a Girl, a charity that works to end gender inequality, promote girls’ rights and lift millions of girls – and everyone around them – out of poverty.
