Penny McDowall, originally of the state of Missouri in the United States, is a celebrated coach and teacher living in the Cayman Islands. She was honored by the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman for her outstanding vocational service and support through sports and community outreach.

Special Olympics Coaching Career[edit]

McDowall is a teacher at the Lighthouse School, is also well known in the Cayman Islands for her celebrated work with the Special Olympics, with which she has been associated for the past 2 decades.

She coaches Andrew Smilley who won the 1.5 km open water swim at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in the Bay of Marathon in Greece and finished second overall at the 1.5 km open water swim at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Long Beach, California.

She was is one of only 40 coaches worldwide to receive the Special Olympics' Exemplary Coach Award.
