She spent 10 years working as a Navy Fitness professional, both in the U.S. and overseas. In the Kingdom of Bahrain, she served as "Fit Boss" and as a Fitness Director at Naval Support Activity, Bahrain, preparing health, fitness and nutritional programming for five military services and family members. She teaches health, fitness and aquatics courses at The Citadel. Her area of interest is in reducing drowning rates among adult African Americans through the use of swimming-education programs.
Open Water Swimming Career
- she completed a crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar on 15 October 2016 at the age of 59 to be part of the Half Century Club
- she completed a 17-mile Swim across Long Island Sound in 2009 from Port Jefferson, New York to Bridgeport, Connecticut that took over 9 hours to complete
