Mohamed Marouf (born 18 May) is a former competitive swimmer (a butterflyer and a professional marathon swimmer from Egypt who currently coaches the Canadian Open Water National Team and the CALAC LaSalle Swim Club in Quebec, Canada.

Honors

• He was inducted as an Honour Swimmer in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame, Class of 2018.
• His year-round efforts to re-energize open water swimming in Egypt were nominated for the 2013 World Open Water Swimming Performance of the Year.

• He was named as one of the 101 Movers And Shakers In The Open Water Swimming World in 2012 and 2013 by the World Open Water Swimming Association.
• His work in Canada and Egypt on behalf of the sport of open water swimming was nominated for the 2013 World Open Water Swimming Performance of the Year.
• He competed in races around Europe, in Egypt, in Argentina, and in Canada including the Traversée Internationale du lac St-Jean in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001.
• He represented his native Egypt at several world championships.
• On 17 July 1993, he set the record at the 1993 International Self-Transcendence Marathon-Schwimmen, a 26.4 km marathon swim in Lake Zurich, Switzerland which is still unbroken (time: 5 hours 51 minutes 41 seconds) as of 2017 at the age of 22.
• On 6 August 1994, he completed the 26.4 km International Self-Transcendence Marathon-Schwimmen in Lake Zurich]] in Switzerland in 6 hours 2 minutes 31 seconds at the age of 23.
• On 30 July 1995, he completed the 32 km Traversée internationale du lac St-Jean in lac St-Jean in Canada in 11 hours 12 minutes 40 seconds at the age of 24.
• In 1996, he did not finish the 57 km Maratón Acuática Internacional Santa Fe - Coronda in Argentina.
• On 28 July 1996, he completed the 32 km Traversée internationale du lac St-Jean in lac St-Jean in Canada in 10 hours 28 minutes 29 seconds at the age of 25.
• On 27 July 1997, he completed the 32 km Traversée internationale du lac St-Jean in lac St-Jean in Canada in 10 hours 4 minutes 57 seconds at the age of 26.
• On 2 August 1997, he completed the 37 km Atlantic City Around The Island Swim in New Jersey, USA in 10 hours 37 minutes 43 seconds at the age of 26.
• He finished 5th in the 38 km Maratón Acuática Internacional Miramar-Mar del Plata held along the coast of Argentina on 1 March 1998.

Coaching Career

• He is the head coach of Le Club de natation Calac.
• He was formerly the head coach at the University and Swim Club Sherbrooke.
• He has been an assistant coach of the national open water swimming teams of both Egypt and Canada at international competitions including Team Canada at the 2009 Summer Universiade.

Education

He received a bachelor's degree in physical education and a master's degree in sports physiology at the Faculty of Physical Education in Cairo, Egypt.

Race Administration

He helped coordinate and organize Stroke for Egypt in the Red Sea, Egypt in December, 2015 and 2016. The Stroke for Egypt is part of the 2015-2016 World Open Water Swimming Series (WOWSS), a global series of open water swimming competitions. FINIS and Ocean Recovery Alliance present the global open water swimming, a 17-race series spans Africa, North America, South America, Asia and Europe and includes some of the world’s most innovative, enjoyable, beautiful and signature open water swimming competitions.
