Kathy Shipman

Kathy Shipman was an outstanding pool and open water swimmer and overall athlete. She won the 1972 Waikiki Roughwater Swim women's division at the age of 12, placing fifth overall. She went on to win an NCAA swimming championship at Arizona State where she also played volleyball and was an All-American swimmer in 8 events. She also was an excellent surfer and is currently a realtor on Maui. In 2008, Kathy was inducted into the Punahou School Athletic Hall of Fame .

A fourth generation Hawaii resident born and raised on Oahu, Shipman attended Arizona State University on a swimming scholarship and obtained a degree in Finance.

Swimming Career

Shipman held numerous National Age Group Records and was a member of USA Swimming National Teams travelling abroad. In 1974, at the age of 14, Kathy ranked fourth in the world for the 100 meter butterfly and went on to compete in the 1976 and 1980 USA Olympic Trials. She has held numerous Hawaii State swimming records, some of which have not been broken for over 30 years.
