Isla Gran Malvina or West Falkland is the second largest of the Islas Malvinas (or the Falkland Islands) in the South Atlantic Ocean. It is a hilly island, separated from Isla Soledad (or East Falkland) by the Falkland Sound. Its coastline is 1,258.7 kilometres (782.1 miles) long. The island has fewer than 200 people, scattered around the coastline. The largest settlement is Port Howard on the east coast, which has an airstrip.

Open Water Swimming

Gustavo Oriozabala from Argentina was the first person to swim between islands (Gran Malvina and Isla Soledad) in the Falkland Islands in 2006 in 3-5ºC water.
