Costa Brava is a coastal region of northeastern Spain, consisting of Alt Empordà, Baix Empordà and Selva, in the province of Girona. The Costa Brava stretches from Blanes, 60 km (37 mi) northeast of Barcelona, to the French border.

Open Water Swimming[edit]

It is the site of the 13 km long Vías Bravas, designated open water swimming courses for the public. It is also the location of the Swim the Costa Brava, part of the PROSwim Challenge, the first European championship open water swimming conducted in stages organised by Culture Sport.

PROSwim Challenge 2013[edit]

The 2013 PROSwim Challenge comprises of 2 competitions over 2 consecutive weeks and in different locations in the Mediterranean waters.

Stage 1 - Swim the Costa Brava on 20-21 September 2013 in L’Escala, Spain.
Stage 2 - Swim the Island on 5-6 October 2013 in Bergeggi, Italy/

PROSwim Challenge 2014[edit]

The 2014 PROSwim Challenge comprises of 3 competitions over 3 consecutive weeks and in different locations in the Mediterranean waters.
​ Stage 1 - Swim The Costa Brava in September 2014 in L’Escala, Spain.
Stage 2 - Swim the Green Island in September 2014 in La Ciotat, France.​
​Stage 3 - Swim the Island in October 2014 in Bergeggi, Italy.

Swim4Good Costa Brava Relay[edit]

Swim4Good Costa Brava relay swam the length of the Costa Brava from Blanes to Portbou in Spain, finishing in 32 hours 7 minutes for the 118.6 km distance. The swimmers included Guillermo Sagnier, Christian Puentes, Alberto Compte, Jordi Cañellas, Mauricio Prieto, Esteban Raventós, and Captain Toni Fiol.

VIes Braves[edit]

Vies Braves is an open water public network of marine itineraries located along Costa Brava in Spain, co-created by Miquel Sunyer.
