Cecil Gordon, chairman of the board of directors of USA Swimming

Cecil C. Gordon M.D. practices obstetrics & gynecology in Wilmington, Delaware at the Brandywine Women's Health Association. He grew up in Hamlet, North Carolina and graduated from Hamlet High School in 1971. He is a graduate of the University Of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, School Of Medicine. Dr. Gordon is an accomplished competitive swimming and open water swimming official.

Officiating Highlights

  • He currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of USA Swimming.
  • He is the chairman of two committees at USA Swimming on Diversity and Safe Sport (previously Athlete Protection Committee).
  • He was a 3-time starter at NCAA Swimming Championships and officiated for 20 years.
  • He was the Olympic Trials Official (2008 and 2012 and the Chief Judge in 2012).
  • He is a FINA Open Water Swimming Official.
  • He was the head referee at the 2012 USA Swimming National Open Water Swimming Championships where he oversaw officials at the 5 km and 10 km races in Fort Myers, Florida.
  • He was selected as a starter for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
  • He was selected as a starter at the 2015 FINA World Swimming Championships in Kazan, Russia.
  • He is a member of the USA Swimming Board of Directors and a Life Member of USA Swimming.
  • He has served on four National Committees, including International Relations, Rules and Regulations, Diversity and Inclusion and Safe Sport.
  • He serves on the USA Swimming Foundation Board in 2016.
  • He served at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 USA Swimming Olympic Trials.
