Caitlin Davies is a novelist, non-fiction writer, journalist and teacher who authored the history of swimming in the River Thames, titled Downstream: a history and celebration of swimming the River Thames.

History of Swimming the River Thames[edit]

In Victorian times, races were held from the Southend pier head and in the 1920s two champion Channel swimmers chose the Thames estuary as their training ground. Today Southend is the home to the Chalkwell Recaps, the fastest growing open water swimming club in the country.
