noun - The Barra Award for Most Impressive Overall Year (or Barra Award for Best Overall Year or Barra Award for Most Prolific Overall Year or the Barra Award for Most Outstanding Year of Marathon Swimming) is an award given by the Marathon Swimmers Forum for most impressive overall year of marathon swimming as part of its MSF Global Marathon Swimming Awards. The Barra Award, named for David Barra, recognizes the most impressive year of marathon swimming, all considered. The Barra Award considers an individual's full body of work in the sport, including swims, event organizing, community-building, leadership, and other contributions.

It is annually given to the male and female marathon swimmers who are recognized for the most impressive year of marathon swimming, all considered, including swims, event organizing, community-building, leadership, and other contributions.

MSF Global Marathon Swimming Awards

It is part of the MSF Global Marathon Swimming Awards that annually recognize the world's most outstanding achievements and contributions in the sport of unassisted open water marathon swimming. The awards are nominated and voted on by members of the Marathon Swimmers Forum. Awards are given in six categories: Solo Swim of the Year (female), Solo Swim of the Year (male), Barra Award for Best Overall Year (female), Barra Award for Best Overall Year (male), Streeter Award for Service to Marathon Swimming, and Yudovin Award for Most Adventurous Swim.

Namesake

The Barra Award is named after David Barra, an International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame Honor Swimmer from New York.
