Alawi Makki, first Saudi Arabian swimmer to cross the English Channel
Alawi Mohammed Makki Al-Ibrahim (born 1955) was an open water swimmer from Saudi Arabia who was inducted in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame in 1969 as an Honour Swimmer. He holds a bachelor's degree in physical education from Egypt, is married and has three sons and two daughters.
Open Water Swimming Career
- Makki crossed the English Channel on 14 August 1965 (EF) in 12 hours 28 minutes, the first Saudi Arabian to do so.
- Makki crossed the English Channel on 21 August 1966 (EF) in 8 hours 54 minutes.
- Makki crossed the English Channel on 22 August 1968 (EF) in 9 hours 54 minutes
