Dr. Adrian Kanaar, a doctor of rehabilitation medicine, was the oldest person to complete the 28.5-mile Manhattan Island Marathon Swim (9 hours 34 minutes in 1984 to become a member of the Half Century Club) and as a medical student in England in 1932 and 1933, he twice failed in his attempts to swim the English Channel.
