Yoelvis "Joey Pedraza", born in Cuba and emigrated to the United States, is an NCAA Swimming Championships qualifier and an All-American swimmer at the University of Florida. He also swam at the 2009 USA Swimming National Championships, placing 10th in the 1500m free (15:27.94) and 4th in the 10km in the 2012 USA Swimming National Open Water Swimming Championships. He was named to the USA Swimming National Open Water Swimming Team and placed second in the 2012 Flowers Sea Swim and won the 2014 ISHOF Rough Water Swim in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
