Windermere is the largest natural lake in England and site of many open water swimming events like the British Gas Great North Swim and several British Long Distance Swimming Association competitions and the Big Chill Swim. Windermere is in the Lake District and is 10.5 miles long with a maximum depth of 66.76 meters (219 ft). Windermere is a Ribbon lake (ribbon lakes are long and narrow) and was formed over 13,000 years ago during the last major ice age
