Waikiki Roughwater Swim, early history
Wayne Thiessen competed in the 1972 Waikiki Roughwater Swim on Oahu and finished in 2 hours 12 minutes. He then proceeded to walk home to Hawaii Kai and became part of the lore of one of the world's greatest open water swimming events.
