Mission

For most of the Munster open water swims, participants need to be a member of a Swim Ireland club (in the competitor status). The Sandycove Island Swim Club was established to accommodate swimmers who wanted to swim in these events, but who were not part of a swim club and so did not have Swim Ireland membership.

Membership

As of January of 2012, it includes 16 English Channel solo swimmers, one of whom, Lisa Cummins, was the twentieth person to swim a Two-Way English Channel. Other swims by the various members of the club include Manhattan Island Marathon Swim (MIMS), Rottnest Channel Swim, Round Robben Island, Round Jersey, Round Valentia Island, Beginish Island, Speckled Door to Sandycove, Strait of Gibraltar, Skellig Michael to Portmagee, Hellespont, English Channel one way and two way relays, Lake Zurich solos and relays.
