The Swim Across America San Francisco Bay Open Water Swim is a 0.5-mile and 1.5-mile charity swim held on 29 September 2012.

Swimmers take a boat from Pier 3 to Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge, a great scenic tour of San Francisco Bay. The start is a jump under the Golden Gate Bridge, a dramatic and unique entry point. Swimmers will head into Crissy Field Beach, a 1.5-mile swim, depending on the tides. The morning concludes with a celebration at Crissy Field Beach. Swimmers can opt for the 0.5 mile course.

The water temperature will be approximately 60°F (15-16°C). For safety, wetsuits are encouraged unless you have been training regularly in the Bay without a wetsuit and are fully acclimated.
