noun - Open water swim is an open water swimming event conducted in any open body of water including oceans, lakes, bays, channels, canals estuaries, rivers, lagoons, fjords or lochs.

Many examples of open water swims include the Waikiki Roughwater Swim in Honolulu, Hawaii, La Jolla Rough Water Swim near San Diego, California, or the Flowers Sea Swim in Grand Cayman Island.
