Nial Funchion is a Chicago policeman veteran and an open water swimmer who has successfully completed swimming the Strait of Gibraltar (from Tarifa, Spain to Morocco) at the age of 45 and the English Channel at the age of 35. A lifelong swimmer, Funchion crossed the Strait of Gibraltar with the purpose of raising funds and awareness for fallen police officers.

Funchion's marathon swimming goal is to become a member of the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming and to complete the Oceans Seven while calling attention to his fallen comrades and raising money via Beyond Break Walls.

He completed the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim on 23 June 2012 and is scheduled to attempt the Catalina Channel in 2013 and the Molokai Channel and Tsugaru Channel in 2014.
