New Bedford is a city in Bristol County, Massachusetts, United States. New Bedford is nicknamed "The Whaling City" because during the 19th century, the city was one of the most important whaling and fishing ports in the world, along with Nantucket, Massachusetts and New London, Connecticut. The city, along with Fall River, Massachusetts and Taunton, Massachusetts, make up the three largest cities on the South Coast region of Massachusetts.

It is site of the annual Buzzards Bay Swim, a charity swim whose funds raised support the Buzzards Bay Coalition's work to protect and restore the Bay.
