verb - Navigating is to traverse by swimming through an open body of water, generally from one point to another. It is one element of the concept of interleaving in the sport of open water swimming. It is one element of the concept of interleaving in the training of open water swimmers and triathletes.

The swimmer was navigating through the waves to swim around the pier.
